The Altius Alliance teacher training provider, based at Cheadle Hulme High School in South Manchester in a purpose built training centre, is graded Outstanding in all areas by OFSTED.

Altius has developed “a clear vision for excellence producing outstanding secondary teachers in the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) subjects” and is extending the teacher training on offer to include primary education.

We offer two programmes: a Primary Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and a Primary PGCE with Maths as a Specialism. At the end of both programmes, you will gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The academic element of the course will also enable you to gain 60 masters credits and the award of a PGCE. Programmes run from September to June.

Changes to the landscape of teacher training provision mean that prospective entrants to the profession can now access a variety of training routes. The Altius Alliance provides a school-led route which “ensures that trainees have the opportunity to hone their practical teaching skills in an intellectually rigorous context. Training balances conceptual understanding with the practical toolkit trainees need to teach in schools.”

The Altius Alliance operates under the umbrella of the growing Laurus Trust and offers outstanding training for prospective teachers. Katz Schindlein, Head of Programme, was delighted with the recent OFSTED inspection outcome and commented that “The Trust has a responsibility to engage in quality teacher training to ensure the provision of high calibre professionals to service the needs of the local region and beyond. We have worked hard to develop a robust and rich school-led programme that demands high expectations alongside offering opportunity and challenge.”

The OFSTED report lauded the training programme stating that “exceptionally well-designed training enables trainees and NQTs to thrive.” The current and former trainees told the inspectors “it had been a privilege to train with the provider”. They also praised the “excellent levels of support provided by leaders and managers and the opportunities to seek and act upon their advice.”

“The Altius Alliance is building an excellent reputation for producing Newly Qualified Teachers who are confident and competent.”

We are delighted to be in a position to build on our excellent reputation for secondary teacher training by offering training for those seeking to pursue a career in the primary phase.
