After fully researching the options open to me to complete teacher training, I chose the SCITT course with Altius as I felt this would harness and enhance the classroom experience I had already amassed during my time as a teaching assistant. With a specifically tailored course, the Altius not only boosted my personal confidence for beginning my classroom training but also provided me with the necessary skills, attitudes and focus in all aspects of teaching and pedagogy.
Following successful completion of the course, when a teacher of English position came up at Cheadle Hulme High School I jumped at the opportunity; I was thrilled to be offered the role and continue working in the environment which had shaped and moulded be into becoming an ‘outstanding’ trainee teacher.
After completing my NQT and RQT years at CHHS, I relished the opportunity to be able to assist in establishing the English department at one of our new schools, Laurus Ryecroft. Coming from Tameside myself, I saw this as a perfect and once-in-a-lifetime chance to work in a brand new school in an area in need of an excellent education provision. As a teacher in the Laurus Trust, this is something which I felt that I could personally help to provide.
Now in my third year of teaching at Laurus Ryecroft, and an Assistant Subject Leader of English, it has been a great thrill to be able to teach enriching, interesting and rigorous lessons to the students of Tameside. In working at Ryecroft, I have also been able to bring some of my own interests and passions into the classroom and to actively promote creativity, rhetoric and the Arts during lessons and Electives.
“With a specifically tailored course, the Altius certainly boosted my confidence for beginning my classroom training.”
